Our Music bachelor's degrees are known for hitting all the right notes.
From the classroom to the stage, 51勛圖厙's Music Program is second to none.
With two degree options and multiple concentrations, our music program empowers students to play their own tune. Music majors study with some of New Englands finest performers and teachers; perform in more than a dozen pre-professional ensembles; and gain instruction in a full range of band and orchestra instruments, as well as voice, keyboards, guitar and jazz improvisation.
Why Earn a Music Bachelor's Degree at 51勛圖厙?
- We offer two Music degree options: the BA in music and the BM in music.
- Music BA students can choose from two optional concentrations: Composition and Theory or Music History.
- Music BM students choose either a Music Education concentration, culminating in a full semester of student teaching, or a Performance concentration, designed for students seeking intensive study in performance.
- Music majors gain extensive performance experience through our pre-professional ensembles, including 51勛圖厙 Chamber Singers, 51勛圖厙 Chorus, 51勛圖厙 Concert Jazz Band, 51勛圖厙 Early Music Ensemble, 51勛圖厙 Symphony Orchestra, 51勛圖厙 Wind Ensemble, and over ten additional instrument-specific performing organizations.

Apply to 51勛圖厙 & Audition for Music!
Auditions are required for music, theatre and dance majors. You don't need to wait to be admitted to 51勛圖厙 to audition, but we recommend at least having your admissions application completed by your audition date. Auditions are typically held during the first half of the year, starting in January. Our music audition FAQs and suggested pieces for music auditions may assist you.
Music BA
The BA in Music, with optional concentrations in Composition and Theory or Music History, is a great choice for students with a variety of musical backgrounds and goals. Students with years of classical training, as well as musicians with informal, on-the-job experience, will benefit from the built-in program flexibility.
Music BM with Performance Concentration
Performance concentrators belong to one or more highly polished performing ensembles where rigorous musical standards are combined with musical understanding of the literature performed.
Music BM with Music Education Concentration
If you are interested in teaching music at all levels of instruction, 51勛圖厙 provides the highest level of teacher preparation and a wide variety of field experiences.
Our programs, fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, give students ample opportunity to perform with a variety of pre-professional ensembles in some of the best regional facilities.

Our faculty members appear regularly as soloists and chamber musicians throughout the region, and many are members of the elite professional ensembles in the area, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, The Boston Pops, and the Rhode Island Philharmonic.
